$$$$ Holiday Extravaganza Contest $$$$

by admin on November 18, 2008 in Contests

To celebrate Kidazy.com’s official second holiday season and to celebrate the incredible growth of our community since last Christmas I have decided to offer a Holiday Extravaganza contest like nothing I have ever run before! The prize? A $500 E-mailed gift certificate to Amazon.com! Don’t worry the E-mailed gift certificates are almost immediately received and Amazon offers holiday shipping that is guaranteed to get to you by Christmas! All you have to do to have a chance at winning is to leave a comment on this post between now and December 13th telling me what you would buy with your $500 Amazon gift certificate if you won! One winner will be drawn at random on December 14th!

EDIT: Because of the sheer amount of entries to this contest and the so many heartbreaking stories I have read, I have decided to add an extra something to the pot. For the duration of this contest my top advertising spaces (see the top right column) are selling for $5 per day per spot, all revenue generated from these spots will be donated to another winner (drawn at random) in hopes of bringing another family a holiday season that they deserve. This one is entirely up to you guys to generate a large enough pot to give a family a Holiday season and as long as you comment on this post you are entered in to the running as well, so why not give $5 for a chance at winning the whole pot?

I would love to buy some Toys for the Toys for Tots program in my hometown. There are a lot of needy families in my town because Michigan’s economy is so awful right now.

Thank you for the chance!

My husband and I lost a ton of weight so I’d get us some new clothes. Right now, both of us have had our hours cut at work so we’ve not been able to get anything new. We’re getting creative on wearing our baggy clothes and I’m just sick of it. I think I’d take some of the money and get some groceries from there as well. I hear they have excellent deals as well as a lot of stuff that I can’t find at the local grocery. Thanks.

If I win this $500.00, I would buy a Wii console for our family ($250), Star Wars game ($49.00), and a Wii Fit game for myself ($89). The rest of the money would go toward gifts for the mailman, babysitter, and our wonderful dog.

254 Ann Tat December 2, 2008 at 6:35 pm

257 Cathy Tat December 2, 2008 at 6:42 pm

I would use the money to do a makeover for my daughter’s room since she always inherit second hands stuff. I will decorate her room with Tinker Bell stuff. Thanks.

258 Lara December 2, 2008 at 7:00 pm

Wow, I would buy all my Hannukah and Christmas presents (we celebrate both). My kids usually get 2nd hand gifts and this would be a treat!

259 Jessica December 2, 2008 at 7:47 pm

I would use it to do a Very large portion of my Christmas shopping. I want to get my husband a Slanket. I would love to get my little one some learning toys. And I would love to get my mom a digital camera. The rest would go to a local angel tree. I always feel bad for the people left on the angel trees right before the deadline. So I try to do at least one or two. I just know that this year their are going to be a lot more left than normal.

Believe it or not, I would buy a ton of socks, because I need some BAD! All of my socks are either mismatched or have holes in them!

262 Rachael December 3, 2008 at 3:11 am

There’s a lot that I could buy with $500 but I’m sure a bunch of it would be books, movies, video games and clothes.

263 mannequin December 3, 2008 at 6:21 am

Here’s my tale of woe! My son is eleven, gifted musically and has outclassed his parents LOL. He has played piano and guitar for over five years and is extraordinary.
We were fortunate enough to have grandpas old piano so my son gets to play piano each day but the guitar he’s using is a JR edition el cheapo and the boy really does deserve a regular nice guitar for Christmas. Though he has dreams of a Gretsch (told ya he has outclassed himself), the $500 Amazon card would be used to buy this child a very nice guitar that would last years and years.
Thanks for the chance and Happy Holidays!

270 Karissa December 5, 2008 at 12:23 am

I have been off work since June, medical reasons and now that I can go back to work the economy stinks so bad I can’t find a thing, so I would use this for Christmas for my family mom, stepdad, stepmom, dad, brothers and sister in law, and nieces and nephews ( I have 7!) Plus my boyfriend has been so good to me, I would love to get him something nice. I have been feeling like such a mooch. but the want ads are literally non existent. there is nothing there! and no one allows you to just take in your resume anymore. so frustrating. My fingers are crossed! thanks for the chance Katy!

271 Sara K December 5, 2008 at 11:15 am

I’d put it toward a new carseat for my almost 1 year old and then maybe some new clothes for the little ones.

272 Katie December 5, 2008 at 3:59 pm

Thanks for such a generous giveaway!

Ahem, my list:
“Wreck This Journal” By Keri Smith
“The 4 Agreements” By Don Miguel Ruiz
“The Tales of Beedle the Bard” By JK Rowling
“Charlotte’s Web” By EB White
A bundt cake pan
a pink spatula
A pack of moleskine journals
“Notorious”, a lovely smelling perfume by Ralph Lauren

and a Jessie Steele cupcake apron

Good Luck to all :)
Kindly remember the spirit of giving this season.

273 Robin H December 5, 2008 at 10:43 pm

I would buy presents for my family. We, (and seems like most of America) are having our worst year financially, Christmas is looking to be extremely slim this year. If we won that would be a dream come true. Thanks for giving us the chance. :) Happy Holidays!

274 April T. December 5, 2008 at 11:59 pm

My sister and her husband were hit hard by the housing crisis. They have a rental home in Texas that they haven’t been able to find a renter for and now can’t even sell with the housing market like it is right now. On top of that, they also had to pay to repair the damage to their property caused by the recent storms. So I would use this gift card to help make Christmas extra special this year for her two little sons (my adorable nephews).

275 Alfie December 6, 2008 at 2:09 am

I would buy skis and xc ski trailer for my daughter and wife to enjoy together.

276 Teresa Hoyt December 6, 2008 at 12:23 pm

I would buy a few books to curl up with while its cold outside, an ice cream maker, and a few wii games for my kids! Thanks for the chance to win!

My husband is currently deployed to Iraq and will miss Christmas and his Birthday, which is the 26-day after Christmas, for the 2nd time in a row (15 month deployment). I really want to be able to get him something nice when he returns in January with the gift card to Amazon. Since I can’t send him anything of much value over there (could get lost or stolen or even damaged) I would like to surprise him with something nice when he is home.

278 Alex H. December 7, 2008 at 1:29 am

I would start by trying to get my 5 younger siblings Christmas gifts out of the way. They range from 7-21 and it is difficult to find good gifts for them. Then I would get something for my Mother, she never gets to get gifts for herself, maybe something for her kitchen and some books, she loves to read. Thanks for such a great giveaway.

279 Katelyn December 8, 2008 at 8:52 am

Our family needs a few things- and $500 is a lot of money that could be stretched a long way- but do you buy the ‘needs’ or do you add a little extra joy and memorableness by buying the gifts. Maybe I could combine the 2 a little- so, I know that’s not really an answer to exactly what i would buy but— it would definitely get used!

280 Natalie December 8, 2008 at 4:57 pm

I would buy a stroller and a collection of books for my baby boy!

281 Jodi B December 8, 2008 at 6:01 pm

I would use this to get my son a television. He is turning 16 this week and between this and Christmas he would be so psyched to get one.

282 Cindi December 8, 2008 at 7:03 pm

Headsets! Then, I would like to buy some nice gifts for the mentally and physically challenged children at the home our church sponsors. Please enter me in your drawing. Many thanks, Cindi

285 Mom to G and C December 8, 2008 at 10:45 pm

This is a great giveaway! I would use it to buy Christmas presents for my two little guys and birthday presents for a certain little guy who turns 3 right before Christmas! I love Amazon and buy most of my stuff from them anyway- so this would be a huge help- especially as they just announced furloughs at my job today! Thanks so much!

286 Bonna December 9, 2008 at 12:41 am

Where to start? Our boy would flip for a fully decked out Thomas Train Set. Mama would get herself some brand new shoes and dad would probably love a nice thick hardcover mystery to get lost in.

287 Datura Rose December 9, 2008 at 1:23 am

I would buy a Wii and a Wii Fit.

288 linda December 9, 2008 at 1:52 pm

I would buy gifts for the kids! Probably lots of toys, clothes and artsy/craftsy and food/cooking gifts.

291 Anita Yancey December 9, 2008 at 8:41 pm

I would buy gifts for my family. Then if there was anything left I would buy books for me.

292 B December 9, 2008 at 10:38 pm

I would buy gifts for my family and then wipe out my Amazon books and movies wish list.

293 Cher December 9, 2008 at 11:16 pm

I would hand it to my husband with a huge smile and say “have fun honey!!”

294 Jeffrey W December 10, 2008 at 1:27 am

I would buy toys/gifts for my daughters. And a nice sweater or purse for my wife.

Thanks.

295 Bonny S. December 10, 2008 at 5:08 am

I would buy a food processor, blender, healthy foods, vitamins, books, music, dvd’s, and another computer, which this family really needs.

Awesome contest!

296 Carl S. December 10, 2008 at 5:11 am

That’s a simple one – gifts for the family for christmas!

297 wendy wallach December 10, 2008 at 7:32 am

I would use the money to buy practical things to stretch an already tight budget….cleaning supplies, bulk foods, tolietries, batteries, etc. Everyone these days is feeling the pinch and when you are struggling to provide the basics, who can think about the extras?

298 sandra kao December 10, 2008 at 9:12 am

i would get a digital picture frame and an iphone-compatible clock radio (don’t know what models yet) for my husband’s 40th birthday

299 Melissa O. December 10, 2008 at 2:14 pm

If I won,I would use this to get diapers for my baby and clothing for my kids. It is a tough time for so many right now, including myself so if I won I would also buy a toy to donate to needy children. I hope next year is a better time for the economy and struggling families. Thank you so much.

300 Mae Behling December 10, 2008 at 4:09 pm

Instead of buying something, I would give it to my granddaughter. She took off three months to stay with me round the clock while I was in the hospital and recovering from surgery. I could never afford to give her such a large gift, but being able to do so would give me more joy than anything I could pick out to buy for myself. I hope this counts as answering!!!
