Say What

The idea of family game night has always intrigued me, I love the concept of having the whole family get together and just laugh. With the state of things today it is all too difficult to relate to each other in positive ways and actually laugh once in a while but Say What is about to change that! Say What is an electronic game that contains over 300 famous phrases and your job is to solve those scrambled phrases as quickly as you can! The favorite phrases come from movies, TV, music and more and is sure to teach the whole family a little something! There are three ways to play this game but played one way the game calls out a popular phrase and

you must scramble the worded balls to make the phrase read correctly before the game calls out the correct phrase! The best part about this game? You can play it on your own or with four other people! There are also age appropriate levels of play but the game is recommended for children ages 8yrs+ because of the cognitive factor of play.

You can find the Say What gameover at Amazon.com. I have not found this game in local retail stores around my area but you may have better luck where you live!

Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Netbook - Sapphire Blue

I usually prefer to pick toys that are a little more educational and a little less tech savvy; however, during my graduate school research process it has become apparent to me that these days 99% of colleges expect children to have their own laptops and of course know how to use them, which means one thing – start young! The younger your child is when he/she learns to use a laptop the easier it will be for them to adjust to using one for school work. I remember my first laptop well, I was still a student and had to bargain hunt for goodness knows how long until I found one that would work for me in my price range; however, with the prices on laptops tumbling

tumbling you can easily pick up a good laptop at a decent price. The Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Netbook in Sapphire Blue is a good choice for that first laptop at just under $350. This one comes with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 6 1/2 hours of battery, Windows XP Home with SP3 (my favorite selling point because Vista is a royal pain in the neck!), 160GB Hard Drive, 1GB RAM, Integrated 802.11b/g Wi-Fi Certified and it even has a built in webcam so when your little one ends up going to college you can chat with them anytime! This laptop is smaller than your average screen size which makes it easier for smaller hands to carry around and less likely that it will be dropped!

You can find the Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Netbook in sapphire blue over at Amazon.com. I have not looked for this particular model locally; however, if you prefer to shop at retail stores for your child’s laptop make sure you shop with the Sunday circulars and you will find a great deal!

Vtech - Nitro Junior Notebook

It is far easier in this day and age to get a child interested in video games than it is to get them interested in learning or doing their homework and sometimes we have to take advantage of that fact to increase their interest in learning. The Vtech – Nitro Junior Notebook is a wonderful way to encourage further learning for children ages 4 – 6 years. This tiny laptop computer created for younger minds features 50 different activities that teach science, creative logic, language, math and more! By showing lessons through interesting facts and activities the Vtech – Nitro Junior Notebook encourages learning in a more gentle and some might say sneaky way

as opposed to sitting a child in front of a book with a pen and pencil in hand. The Vtech – Nitro Junior Notebook includes 8 different learning cartridges including Nature and Science, World Discovery, Art Album, Game Time, Social Studies, Language Arts, Math Explorer and Music Studio! The computer itself features a QWERTY keyboard, a volume control slider, a mousepad and an LED screen!

You can find the Vtech – Nitro Junior Notebook over at Amazon.com. You will be able to find this one in most larger retail toy stores as well!

Phantom Force Self-Moving Electronic Chess Set

One of the most challenging games any child can learn to play is chess. Chess is a great game to encourage your child to play not only because of the strategy they need to learn to play it but also because it teaches them patience which is one life skill many children these days have very little experience with. The Phantom Force Self-Moving Electronic Chess Set is one of the most amazing chess set’s I have ever seen, this chess set can actually play itself or it can play your child! I love the fact that this chess set provides an electronic partner for your child that moves it’s own pieces simply because as a child I remember always looking for someone to play my games

with me and now your child doesn’t have to search any more! The Phantom Force Self-Moving Electronic Chess Set allows your child to enter his/her move in to the board and they can watch their own piece move as well! This board has 136 levels with 120 levels for playing and 16 levels for analysis so your child can learn more about chess strategy! This board also saves games in to it’s memory and sets itself up automatically! This chess game also comes with Spanish, English and French spoken language.

You can find the Phantom Force Self-Moving Electronic Chess Set over at Amazon.com. You can find other electronic chess sets at local big name toy stores; however, I have never seen this one in a local retail store to date.
