Educational Toys

Smart Snacks Counting Cookies

Counting Cookies is an educational toy from Learning Resources. Counting Cookies is a learning to count toy consists of a hard plastic cookie jar, appropriately labeled "Cookies" and ten individual cookies. Each cookie in the set has a certain number of chocolate candy pieces on top (1-10) and the appropriate number written on the bottom of the cookie. These cookies are made of soft plastic and intended to teach even the youngest child to count by identifying how many pieces of candy are on top of the cookie. Each cookie measures two inches across and the jar measures 5.1" x 10.1" x 10.2" and weighs 1.1 lbs making it light enough to carry around.

This counting toy is recommended for children aged 36 months and up and is also a great toy for learning disabled children as well as special needs children. While some parents may get hung up on the cookie factor, I’m a firm believer in all things in moderation and don’t buy in to the Cookie Monster ban or any of that jazz. Learning Resources has some really amazing toys that connect with children on a level other learning toys don’t.

The entire product line from Learning Resources is available at Amazon.com including the counting cookies, Smart Snacks Rainbow Color Cones, Smart Snacks Hide ‘n’ Peek Chocolates, Smart Snacks Mix & Match Doughnuts, Smart Snacks Gingerbread Sort & Snap, Smart Snacks ABC Lacing Sweets, Smart Snacks Animal Crack-Ups, Smart Snacks Sorting Shapes Cupcakes, Smart Snacks Piece-A-Pizza Fractions, Learning Resources Sandwich Set and many many more.

Radio Flyer Classic Walker Wagon

Chiara had asked about a boys version of the Walk A Buddies Princess coach I posted earlier this month and after some research I decided on the Radio Flyer Classic Wagon Walker. This product of the Radio Flyer trusted brand and is perfect for little boys just learning to walk on their own. This wagon is designed with stability in mind to help prevent tip ups that end up in busted lips! The wheels are molded and have a tread on them to prevent slippage just like the princess coach featured ealier this month. The body of the wagon is made from solid wood and the side panels are removable. This wagon also has a featured bumper on the front to prevent

damage with indoor play. The walker wagon also has a feature called a "resist push" feature making it harder to push for beginner walkers so that the wagon won’t slip out from under them as they stand and wobble at first. Another redeeming feature of the Red Wagon Walker Wagon is the Gold Seal best toy award that it won from Oppenheim!

This wagon is available from Red Wagon; however, it is available from Amazon for half the price with free shipping so this is my preferred retailer for this one. Although this toy is presented as a boy alternative to the featured princess coach it also makes the perfect walker for a little girl as well.

Edushape Alphabet Tile Letters, 26 Pack

Edushape’s giant interlocking alphabetical tiles are great for playrooms and bedrooms of all sizes, not only serving as a mat for carpeting but also serving as a learning tool for children. The flat tiles each have letters of the alphabet printed on them and all of them interlock together and can form shapes as well as a flat mat. This particular set of foam tiles by Edushape features the upper case letters of the alphabet (one letter on each piece) and they are completely washable. Each tile measures 12" X 12" forming a square of 156" by 156", large enough to cover the carpet of a room 13 feet by 13 feet. The great thing about these soft tiles is that they

are colorful and pliable, they can be built in to forts and playhouses as well as simply serve as a carpet covering. Colors included in this set are orange, yellow, blue, green, purple, and red which means there are enough colors to make this a unisex piece which will suit any child’s room.

Edushape also has smaller "mini" alphabet tiles as well as number tiles which can be purchased seperately. All of Edushape’s toys are fairly affordable when you take in to account the durability and usage to be gained from sets such as this.
