Other Educational Toys

Team Walker

Having a large family isn’t always easy for children and learning to cooperate and get along with siblings can be one of the hardest lessons to learn. As well as being a sibling it can also be extremely difficult to adjust to school life where previously only children are them forced to share toys and cooperate with other children. Both of these examples are great opportunities for toys such as the Team Walker! The Team Walker is a game which incorporates up to four children at once promoting body conditioning and coordination as well as cooperation with other children! The Team Walker can be separated in to four individually colored walkers or it can be locked

together to create one multi-colored team building toy! The Team Walker has adjustable rubber straps and is flexible and portable making it a great toy to take to the park, to the playground at school or simply out to the driveway! Toys like the Team Walker are ideal for sets of multiples as well, parents of twins, triplets and quadruplets will find this a handy exercise for cooperating with siblings! The Team Walker measures 15 1/2" x 5" x 1" and is recommended for children ages 3yrs+.

You can find the Team Walker over at KazooToys.com. I have found this one at various online retailers but never at a brick and mortar store!

AntWorks Tunnel Vision

Today’s toy review is one after my own heart. While most women everywhere absolutely hate all bugs in general I have a soft spot for ants, I find them simply amazing. The Antworks Tunnel Vision is an ant habitat that is filled with edible gel (you can buy extra gel when yours starts to wear thin) that your ant colony burrows through to create their own series of tunnels. The antworks tunnel vision habitat only comes with one section out of the picture above; however, it also comes with tunnel pieces that are unbreakable that can fit on to other tunnel works pieces so you can build on to your existing colony and allow your ants other sectors to explore which is a great

idea if you are looking for a project that you and your child can work on together over a period of time. With the tunnel feature you just slide the unbreakable tunnel pieces in to the sides of the two antworks sections you wish to join together and watch your ants travel through on their way to discovery! The ants for this one are sold seperately, unfortunately you can’t just go and catch your own because your colony needs a queen to survive but the habitat does come with the information to send off for your ants! Ants are a great way to teach your child about how other animals live and how their societies work. Being able to watch how ant colony’s designate work and establish their own societies is simply amazing and something every child should experience!

Antworks habitats are sold in many places; however the tunnel vision sets are relatively new so you may have a slightly harder time finding them. If you can’t find one near you, you can order yours from Amazon for just under $25.

KidKraft Judaica Holiday Puzzle Set

Puzzles are an amazing way to increase your young childs dexterity and hand eye coordination as well as to provide them with visual and mental stimulation. While all of the above are important factors to all families, faith is also an important factor to many other families which is what prompted me to feature today’s toy, the set of four wooden Judaica Holiday Puzzles and Rack to store them in. While this set of puzzles is identified more with families of the Jewish faith they are also great ways to allow your child playtime while exposing them to faiths and beliefs other than their own. The four puzzles included in this set are the Chanukah puzzle, the Shabbat puzzle,

the Passover puzzle and the Rosh Hashana puzzle. Each of the puzzlesfeature items specific to each celebration as individual pieces of the puzzle which can easily be lifted to and from the puzzle base by the attached pegs on each piece! This set of puzzles also features a wooden holding rack to keep all four puzzles in one safe place and the rack itself is also adorned with decorative Judaica motifs. Each puzzle measures 12" x 8" x 5" and is recommended for children ages 3 yrs +. The thing I love about these puzzles more than anything is the exposure to different beliefs, not being of the Judaic faith myself I find that these puzzles prompt research and discovery in to other belief systems than my own which in turn leads to broadening of minds in both children and parents alike.

These puzzles are carried in many online retail stores; however, I have yet to find them in local stores but this could simply be because they are more of a holiday themed item. I found this set over at Babyage.com where they carry a wide array of fun and educational toys!

Leapfrog L-max

The Leapfrog Leapster L-Max learning game system comes in both pink and gray/blue to suit both sexes and has been raved about by parents since it’s release. The purpose of the Leapster L-Max is to replace those brain rotting games that children are currently playing on their handheld video game systems with games that stimulate their brains and increase their intelligence by teaching them things that they would otherwise be learning in school but disguising them as "fun". With this handheld gaming system kids are learning letters, numbers, reasoning and a number of other life skills in the guise of a fun game with

popular characters such as Dora and the crew from Madagascar. The Leapster L-Max is recommended for kids aged 4-10 and has multiple skill levels. The Leapster also plugs in to the TV so kids can play the games and watch the results of their actions as they play out on the TV screen. The Leapster has many functions and is also shaped perfectly for little hands so kids don’t get uncomfortable holding it for long car trips. The Leapster L-Max also requires 4 AA batteries which are not included. The Leapster does, however, include an interactive touch screen and pen.

The games for the Leapster L-Max are sold seperately and come in a variety of skill levels as well as a variety of skill niches so parents can pick games based on their individual child’s needs. Games for the L-Max run at approximately $20-30 a piece and can be purchased from most larger toy stores.
