IlluStory Make Your Own Story Kit

You all should know by now that I absolutely LOVE toys that encourage creativity and independant thinking in children and the Illustory kit from "Creations by You" is one of the most creative toys I have come across in quite a while. The Illustory Make Your Own Story Kit encourages children to use their own creativity to write an illustrate their very own story! The kit comes with everything needed for your child to write their own story: 18 book pages, 2 cover pages, 10 washable markers, a story web planner, instructions, an order form and a prepaid envelope. Children use the enclosed materials to create their story complete with pictures and then you mail in

the story with the enclosed prepaid envelope. In a few weeks following receipt of your child’s story the company will mail back a professionally type-set book along with your childs colorful illustrations included! Children also have the opportunity to include an "about the author" section to their book and design the cover! You can even order extra copies of your child’s book to send off as gifts to family and friends! The Illustory kit won the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Seal Award, Parents’ Choice Classic Award, Family Life’s Best Learning Toy Award and Dr. Toy Best Toy-Classic Award! This kit is recommended for children ages 6yrs+ and makes a great gift!

You can find the Illustory Make Your Own Story Kit over at Amazon.com or you can look for it in your local stores; however, I have not yet found this one in any of my local stores!

    Letterland ABC

    June 19th, 2008 by admin
    Letterland ABC

The Letterland ABC brand is a brand exclusive to the UK as far as I am aware; however, their books and activities can be purchased in the US via stores like Amazon and auction sites such as Ebay. The reason I posted the Letterland books today even though they aren’t as readily accessible to the US market is because I truly believe in their power to teach young children to grasp letters and the sounds those letters make. In my home we used the Letterland books to teach my younger brothers to read and I have witnessed firsthand the amazing ability of these books to really connect with children and get them to focus on their letters by

attaching letters to fun characters with individual personalities. The Letterland books are focussed around the letters of the alphabet, each one being a character such as "Annie the Apple" "Robber Red" "Clever Cat" etc. Each character makes use of alliteration in their name making them easy to remember as well as making use of the individual letter sounds. Each character is perfectly drawn to create a sweet faced individual that your child is sure to remember. The Letterland ABC book is just the beginning of the Letterland series and if you take a look around you will find many other helpful Letterland products such as workbooks, a nursery frieze and many other books that make use of the individual letters!

I found today’s Letterland book via Amazon.com; however, you may find other books by searching around online at sites such as Ebay or simply other websites that focus on products in the UK, it doesn’t take long nor much extra postage to ship a book overseas.

All The Colors of the Earth by Sheila Hamanaka

      April 21st, 2008 by admin
All the Colors of the Earth

All The Colors of the Earth by Sheila Hamanaka is an absolutely wonderful book to share with any family member but it is especially important to younger children who have not had the chance to experience other cultures or races or people. This book illustrated, with absolutely gorgeous pictures all of the diversity that peppers the world and a sampling of it’s individual ethnic heritages. The paintings in this book are worth the cost alone, the colorful whimsical illustrations are offset with the amazing lyrical wording of phrases throughout the book which really bring to life the diversity of the world. The illustrations through out the book not only

spotlight the earth but also the children in it which makes this book one that children can relate to and understand. The reading level on this book is baby through preschool so it is one that all children can understand; however it is also a pretty enough book that it can be read with older children and even thumbed through as a coffee table book.

This book is a part of the Amazon.com buy three get the fourth free deal on children’s books so I recommend picking it up from them; however, you may be able to find it in your local store or even order it for free delivery to your local store if you prefer not to order online.

        Walter the Farting Dog

        March 27th, 2008 by admin
        Walter the Farting Dog

Walter the Farting Dog by William Kotzwinkle, Glenn Murray and illustrated by Audrey Colman is an all time favorite among kids everywhere. Whether parents approve or not the simple fact of the matter is that farts, to kids, are absolutely hillarious and Kotzwinkle and Murray draw on that with this book. Walter, is adopted from the pound and farts morning, noon and night! Betty and Billie welcome the dog as part of the family but after even "low-fart" dog biscuits cause Walter to fart, dad has had enough and even though Betty and Billie plead with their dad to keep Walter, dad decides that it’s time to take Walter back to the pound. Walter finds out all about dad’s

plan and decides to hold in his farts forever but that night the house gets broken in to and it’s Walter to the rescue! Walter the farting dog gasses the burglars and mom and dad find out that Walter saved the day! This cute story has many lessons to take away as well as a really cute character to bond with.

Walter the Farting dog has become a short series of books and after the original "Walter the Farting Dog" book take a look at the sequels including Walter the Farting Dog: Banned From the Beach, Walter the Farting Dog Goes on a Cruise, Walter the Farting Dog: Trouble at the Yard Sale, Walter the Farting Dog Farts Again, and Rough Weather Ahead for Walter the Farting Dog. You can also find a stuffed Walter the Farting Dog!

          Gorilla by Anthony Browne

          February 21st, 2008 by admin
L'Oreal Bare Naturale Powdered Mineral Foundation

It is only fitting that the very first Kidazy book recommendation be my personal childhood favorite. "Gorilla" is a book that is not often spoken of, other than by children who have read it or by adults who treasured it as children. Anthony Browne brings this story to life with amazing colored illustrations that titillate every child’s senses. "Gorilla" is a story of a little girl named Hannah who’s dad isn’t around as much as she would like. In the process of the story of "Gorilla" Hannah’s birthday approaches and her dad promises her a trip to the zoo but, as he always does, Hannah’s dad backs out of the trip because he is too busy with work. Disappointed

Hannah goes to bed the night before her birthday and wakes up in the middle of the night to find a package at the end of her bed. Inside the package Hannah finds a toy gorilla, upset, she throws it to the corner of the room where it begins to grow and grow and grow until it comes to life and takes her to the zoo for her birthday to make up for her father’s absence. This is such a perfect story for the child of any busy parent as well as any child who loves to make believe.

"Gorilla" is a pretty difficult to find book now a days; however, Amazon does carry one regularly priced version of the paperback book with an included story CD (read by a British actor who is just amazing with voices.) This book comes more than highly recommended and if your child enjoys it keep an eye out for the other Anthony Browne books, most of which focus on monkeys.
