Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Journey to Change the World... One Child at a Time by Greg Mortenson

Today’s book review is a little something different for children everywhere. "Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Journey to Change the World… One Child at a Time" by Greg Mortenson is a young readers edition of a grown up story that tells the most fabulous tale of a man who has made it his life goal to change the lives of children everywhere. While the book may seem like a dull concept at first it is an amazing tale that is sure to not only entertain your children but it is also sure to inspire them to go out in to the world and do something for others who are less fortunate than themselves. In a time of "me me" it’s time we instilled in the next generation the

importance of "we we." It is far easier to sit at home with our video games and televisions than it is to get out in to the community and make a difference but hopefully this book will help in bringing together your family for some community helping experiences! "Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Journey to Change the World… One Child at a Time" by Greg Mortenson tells of Greg’s mission to build schools in nations such as Pakistan and Afghanistan to promote peace, Mortenson has so far built fifty-five schools and he is far from finished! This young readers edition simplifies the story a little and incorporates Mortenson’s daughter Amira to allow your child to relate a little more to the story. Complex words in the book are also highlighted and a glossary at the back of the book gives your child definitions. This book is recommended for children ages 8yrs+.

You can find "Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Journey to Change the World… One Child at a Time" by Greg Mortenson over at Amazon.com. You can also order this one for free in store delivery at your local big name bookstore!

Amazing Peace: A Christmas Poem

If you have ever read a book by Maya Angelou you will know what a talented and amazingly beautiful writer she is and now she presents "Amazing Peace: A Christmas Poem" for the whole family to enjoy over the Holiday season! This wonderful book comes in a hardcover edition for just over $12 and tells an amazing tale of humanity and the real spirit of the holiday season. While this book is definitely not one for the youngest members of the family as it contains language that would be hard for them to understand it does make a great holiday tradition for older members of the family. The recommended age on this story is for children ages 4yrs+ however with

wording such as “ANGELS AND Mortals, Believers and Nonbelievers, look heavenward,” it comes across as a book which is perhaps better suited to children ages 8yrs+. This beautifully illustrated book is told in poetry and makes a wonderful moment for the whole family to gather around.

You can find "Amazing Peace: A Christmas Poem" by Maya Angelou over at Amazon.com. You can also find this book at your local big name bookstores in the holiday books section, if not ask them to order a copy for free in store delivery!

Dude, That's Rude!

Today’s toy review is another book; however, it is a practical book that came about as a result of a conversation with a friend of mine just last week. My girlfriend was telling me that she was having a heck of a time with her youngest and manners and that because of it she was just dreading having the family over for the holidays. I laughed telling her that her youngest is just being a little boy but after our conversation I went to my local bookstore to do some research and walked out with this wonderful book! "Dude, That’s Rude!: (Get Some Manners)" book by Pamela Espeland is not only a great book to teach your little ones some manners and help your older

ones brush up on theirs but it is also a fun book that really appeals to kids on their level. This wonderfully illustrated book shows in pictures and words all sorts of situations that call for the use of proper manners from home to school environments! Not only does this book tell your children how to behave in certain settings but it also tells them what words are encouraged to say as well as what words to avoid in those situations! This one is a great way to help improve your child’s behaviour in social settings and is even the Parenting Media Awards Winner for 2007! This one is recommended for children ages 9-12 yrs; however when read aloud as a family it is a great resource for younger children too!

You can find the "Dude, That’s Rude!: (Get Some Manners)" book by Pamela Espeland over at Amazon.com or you can order from your local bookstore for free in store delivery!

Caring for Myself: A Social Skills Storybook by Christy Gast

Today’s review is not a toy review but a special book review to bring to light a book which will be helpful for both children and parents of children with Autism. "Caring For Myself: A Social Skills Storybook" by Christy Gast is a book written specifically to explain the "simple" routines that we as adults go through on a day to day basis, while these routines are exactly that, routine, to us, they are often times extremely challenging as well as fear instilling for children who have autism. This wonderful book brings to the forefront the detailed routines which are a mandatory part of taking care of yourself in a way that is both non-threatening and easy to understand.

Each step of each task is broken down in this book with both pictures and with detailed explanation. This book makes simple the tasks which may challenge children with autism by presenting a visual depiction as well as offering a personalized "caring for myself" section of the book. The book also has a special section for parents and teachers at the end of the stories which offer practical advice and ideas for helping to integrate the preceding story in to their child’s life.

You can find "Caring For Myself: A Social Skills Storybook" by Christy Gast over at Amazon.com or you can special order it from your local big name bookstore for free in store delivery!
