If you ever had the chance to watch "Little Miss Sunshine" and got a kick out of it like I did then you’re really going to like "A Crooked Kind of Perfect" by Linda Urban. "A Crooked Kind of Perfect" by Linda Urban is what I would consider a kids version of "Little Miss Sunshine" and tells the story of a little girl with a not so perfect family and a desire to play piano recitals in Carnegie Hall. Zoe is eleven years old, her father is afraid to go outside and spends his time earning online degrees and baking with Zoe’s best friend after school, Zoe’s mother is a workaholic…indeed Zoe has a strange family but she is determined to be happy with what she has even if what she has

contrasts with what she dreams of. Zoe’s father purchases her an organ instead of the baby grand that she dreams of and Zoe learns to play theme songs instead of Bach but when Zoe dives in and enters in to a piano competition knowing that she isn’t the same as every other entry she really shines. This book is recommended for children age 9yrs+.

The "Weighty Words, Too" by Paul M. Levitt book is the second book in a series of two that is intended to teach children bigger "adult" words by breaking them down in to easy to remember stories. When I was younger I was taught from the first of the Weighty Words books and found it extremely easy and fun to learn from but now that "Weighty Words, Too" is out there are plenty more stories to teach with! Words such as "hibernate" are presented in story form with words that sound similar to the one being defined. The story of hibernate revolves around a sleepy clan of bears who want to sleep through winter with the exception of a

bear named Nate who is just too hyper to sleep! Hence we get the word hibernate – hyper/Nate! There are twenty six stories in this book to help build childrens vocabularies! This book is recommended for children ages 9yrs+ however, younger children can also enjoy these stories as well!
