    Hispanic Family Puppet Set

    Hispanic Family Puppet Set

The ability for children to identify with other children and other people around them is sometimes isolated because of their ethnicity combined with geographical location. The issue of isolation in culture also plays in for children who are adopted outside of their native culture and this sometimes plays in to insecurities and problems identifying with peers. The Hispanic family puppet set by Marvel (sold by Kaplan Early Learning Company) is a wonderful way to ease the transition for adopted Hispanic children, Hispanic children who are somewhat isolated from their culture geographically, classroom environments to help expose other children to

other ethnicities, as well as being a great tool for child therapists to include in their chest of toys. The Hispanic Family Puppet Set comes with a mother, father, brother and sister, they are all dressed in coordinating clothes that are sewn on to the puppets. The adult puppets are 10" tall and the entire set is recommended for children ages 3 yrs+.

You can find the Hispanic Family Puppet Set over at Amazon.com!

Learning Resources Math Marks the Spot

      August 29th, 2008 by admin
Learning Resources Math Marks the Spot - A Math Activity Mat

Of all the subjects that are taught in school one of the most challenging for both children and their parents to tackle is math. Learning Resources "Math Marks the Spot" is a wonderful game that allows children and their entire family to enjoy some math based fun as well as learn at the same time. The learning resources game can be played one of two ways, the first being where everyone plays with their marker chip, the dice are rolled and the first player to put their marker chip on the right answer wins that round! The second and most fun way to play this game is to have players touch the answers after rolling the dice. The game helps children practice

addition and subtraction, it does not allow for the practice of multiplication or division; however, I see no reason why you can’t stick a label over the top of a couple of the sides of the dice to replace an addition and subtraction with a multiplication or division choice! The game comes with one play mat, two number dice and one function dice. The vinyl mat measures 4′ x 5′ and the dice measure 5" and are made from soft foam. This game is recommended for children ages 5-8.

You can find the Learning Resources Math Marks The Spot game over at Amazon.com! You may or may not be able to find this one in specialty retail stores local to you as well.

        LeapFrog® Tag Reading System

        August 28th, 2008 by admin
        LeapFrog® Tag Reading System

Today I am breaking my rule of no big name brands once again because the importance of helping children learn to read is so unbelivably important. One of my favorite lines of products for helping children to learn to read is the Leapfrog line of toys. The Leapfrog Tag Reading System is one of the newer Leapfrog releases and instead of having to buy a larger computer system that books plug in to the Tag Reading System is smaller and more portable. Instead of buying the larger unit Leapfrog toys the Tag system allows you to buy one Tag pen and then all you need to buy are the books made especially for the Tag system. The Tag system works by having your

child follow the words in the Tag books with the Tag pen, the pen reads out aloud to your child by using a small camera in the pen tip to recognise the words in the book. The pen can also be used to help children when they read alone and get stuck on the more difficult words. The Tag System currently has around 20 different books which feature popular characters from hot kids movies! The Tag Reading System is recommended for children ages 4- 8 yrs; however, there really is no limit and it can prove a valuable tool to illiterate adults as well as children who are just learning to read English as a second language!

You can find the Leapfrog Tag Reading System at Amazon, or any of the larger retail toy stores! Leapfrog is a large name brand and you should be able to find it in almost any local toystore!

Melissa & Doug Deluxe Magnetic Responsibility Chart

          August 27th, 2008 by admin
Melissa & Doug Deluxe Magnetic Responsibility Chart

We all know how absolutely impossible it is to get children to do their chores and help out around the house and the older they get the more like pulling teeth it is. The Melissa & Doug Deluxe Magnetic Responsibility Chart is a great tool to help to get your children up and helping around the house. The Responsibility Chart relies on children’s need for positive reinforcement. The Chart comes with seven clots for responsibility goals and seven columns for each day of the week. Attached to the chart is a white board which holds all of the magnets that slot in to the chart. Responsibility magnets include simple "chores" such as remembering to say please

and thank you and more difficult chores for older children such as helping with outdoor chores. This set also includes small smilie face magnets which rate your child’s participation in the responsibilities that have been picked for the week. The Responsibility Chart is a great way to monitor allowances and individual child’s behaviour in a multi-child household. The Chart comes with a total of 134 magnets and measures 16" x 24" when the white board is opened up. This Responsibility Chart is recommended for children ages 3yrs+

You can find this Melissa & Doug Chart from Amazon.com! You may be able to locate it at smaller retail stores that carry Melissa & Doug toys; however, you have a better chance of finding it at Amazon.
